COVENTRY FIGHTBACK TOO LATE AS PELECH MARKS 1,000 GAMES

- By CRAIG SUMMERTON

THE Genting Casino Coventry Blaze celebrated Mike Pelech’s 1,000th regular-season game but high-flying Nottingham Panthers spoiled the party on Saturday.

Ahead of face-off for the Elite League, the Blaze marked the 36-year-old forward’s milestone with a pregame ceremony. The Toronto native was joined on the ice by his wife Chelsea as the Sky-dome Arena crowd honoured the achievement.

Despite goals from Grant Mis-mash, Elijah Barriga and Kim Tallberg, Coventry could quite complete a comeback against the Panthers.

Coventry survived an early defensive breakdown, but when a second followed moments later, the Panthers capitalised. David Noél converted a two-on-one opportunity, finishing past Mat Robson after good work from Tim Doherty and Mitch Fossier at 1.17.
