NEW 20MPH PLAN AS PART OF MAJOR CHANGES

A NEW '20mph zone' could be created as part of major changes to a junction in Nuneaton town centre.

Proposals to change the current three-legged Wheat Street junction with Vicarage Street to a new four-legged layout have been on the cards for years.

Now an official traffic order has been proposed that list all of the changes to the junction. This includes cutting the current 30mph speed limit by introducing a 20mph zone on Wheat Street, Justice Walk and Bond Gate.

New cycleway connections, and the footways will also be widened in some areas. This, the county council says, will help create more 'sustainable travel' for pedestrians and cyclists ahead of the proposed changes to create a new library, office space and housing in the £24.49 million Justice Walk' development in nearby Church Street.

"It is currently a 30mph speed limit but the area complies with the horizontal geometry requirements of a 20mph zone," the order states.
