MP fought plan to turn Debenhams into home for asylum seekers
Coventry Telegraph
|September 18, 2025
SERCO wanted to use a Nuneaton town centre hotel and the former Debenhams building to house migrants, a councillor has claimed.
An extraordinary meeting was held at the Town Hall on Tuesday night to discuss asylum seekers and Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMO) following the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl in the town.
During the debate, Conservative councillor Sam Croft, claimed that Serco, which is contracted by the UK Home Office to provide accommodation for asylum seekers while their claims are being processed, wanted to use the Hampton by Hilton hotel, as well as the former Debenham's store to house asylum seekers.
