Bogus haulage firm gang drove off with £75,000 of cargo

A GANG suspected of using the identity of a dead man to buy UK haulage firms and steal thousands of pounds of cargo, allegedly had connections with a man from Coventry.
-
The BBC's Lorry Crime Exposed programme revealed the brazen tactics criminals use to target lorry drivers across the UK. CCTV captured gangs stealing trailers, raiding HGVs during deliveries, and targeting vehicles left unattended.
Crimes targeting hauliers, including bogus haulage firms, are on the rise in the UK, with freight theft jumping to £111m last year from £68m in 2023. One owner told the programme how her haulage firm was conned by thieves posing as a legitimate transport company, resulting in the loss of thousands of pounds of cargo.
She explained that she had hired a transport company to carry out a job. But the lorry arrived at the manufacturing company, was loaded with DIY products and then drove off.
