ALMOSH’HER can provide Yorkshire with a winner of its most famous handicap, the Sky Bet Ebor at York today.

- By NICK ROBSON

Trained in Leyburn in Wensleydale by Karl Burke, the four-year-old runs in the colours of Qatar’s Wathnan Racing operation, a growing force in the game.

They want to be winning the biggest races and while this fits into that bracket with £300,000 to the winner, they bought the gelding hoping he will be plying his trade in Group races sooner rather than later.

Moved to Burke from Charlie Fellowes, who saddled him to win two of his three starts, Almosh’her won on his debut for Burke at the Dante meeting over a mile and a half.

He then went to Royal Ascot but lost all chance before the Duke of Edinburgh by reportedly acting coltish. Unsurprisingly he has since been gelded and may still be on a decent mark as a result.
