Project to eliminate mobile phone 'not-spots' on trains praised by MP

A DEAL to eliminate mobile blackspots on Cornwall’s railways will end dropped calls and interrupted streaming, according to MPs.
Jayne Kirkham, MP for Truro and Falmouth, has praised the announcement of a public-private partnership to install ultra-fast fibre optic cable across more than 600 miles of main railway lines.
Ms Kirkham said she was “delighted” at the news after Labour Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander heralded a landmark deal to eliminate mobile blackspots on Britain’s busiest rail routes.
The MP had previously written to the rail minister Lord Hendy requesting superfast WiFi on train lines as mitigation for the disruption caused by the building of Old Oak Common.
She also led a cross-party delegation of South West MPs in the autumn to see Lord Hendy about the disruption and, as a result, the Truro to London line has been included in the breakthrough agreement.
