Elderly driver killed trying to join A30 at notorious junction

An inquest heard that Geraldine Gibson, 79, was pronounced dead at the scene of the two-vehicle collision, at the junction close to the Plusha services.

Mrs Gibson, at the wheel of a white Kia, was on her way home when she approached the A30 from the B3257 with a view to cutting across the westbound carriageway and turning right on to the eastbound dual carriageway towards Launceston.

An inquest in Truro last Tuesday heard the weather at the time of the accident, about 12.40pm on Sunday, August 11, 2024, had been fine, visibility good and the road surface dry, but the A30 had been busy.

The hearing was shown CCTV footage from the Plusha garage and dashcam footage from a car travelling along the westbound carriageway behind the VW Golf involved in the collision.
