DESPITE MEASURES, TAXI VIOLENCE IS ONGOING

- UNATHI OBOSE unathi.obose@novusmedia.co.za

Days after the opening of several routes that were closed last month to curb taxi violence another taxi boss was gunned down on the R300 on Monday 20 October, sparking fears of another surge of taxi violence.

The man, a senior figure in Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (Cata), died on the scene, while two other men were wounded and transported to hospital. The shooting occurred around 09:00 and brought R300 traffic to a standstill.

Provincial police spokesperson Sgt Wesley Twigg said Delft officers responded to a complaint of a shooting on Monday morning, about 09:15, on the R300, and on their arrival on the scene they found a 32-year-old male with gunshot wounds to the body.
