Stabbed teacher's husband worries lessons 'have not been learned'
Carmarthen Journal
|May 21, 2025
THE husband of a teacher who was stabbed at a Carmarthenshire school that fears lessons on staff safety "haven't been learned", a year on.

John Hopkin, 54, who is also a teacher at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman in Ammanford, discovered his wife Liz Hopkin sitting in a “pool of blood” on the fateful morning of April 24, 2024.
Mrs Hopkin, along with deputy head Fiona Elias and a student, suffered stab wounds inflicted by a 13-year-old pupil who has since been sentenced to 15 years for attempted murder.
In response to the incident, the Welsh Government is set to deliberate on the outcomes of a recent round table on violence and safety in schools at an upcoming behaviour summit.
Meanwhile, Carmarthenshire Council has announced a multi-agency review is currently in progress.
A teachers' union has expressed frustration over what it describes as "a year-long battle" to bring the issues of behaviour and safety in schools to the forefront following the triple stabbing.
