LLANELLI athletes were in medal-winning form at the Welsh Track and Field Championships in Swansea.

MEDALS GALORE FOR LLANELLI ATHLETES

More than 600 athletes took part in the event for age groups from under-13 to under-20, with 22 from Llanelli.

One of the highlights of the weekend saw Llanelli's Darcy Coslett break the championship record to claim gold in a high-quality 400m in a time of 54.62 seconds.

It was more than a second faster than the previous championship record set in 1996.

She said: “I was really happy to take the win and do what I came here to do.

“There are some amazing athletes who have come through the Welsh Championships, so it meant a lot for me to get it.”

Coslett, who is just 16, was competing against under-20 runners, so it was an outstanding achievement.

She also won silver in the under-20 200m in a time of 24.65.

Meanwhile, Joseph Franklin is the new Welsh U20 100m champion. Franklin raced superbly to claim victory in 11.08.
