A MAN beat up his partner and treated her “like a rag doll’ after becoming angry when he saw her looking for clothes online, a court has heard.
Swansea Crown Court.
(PETER BOLTER)
Adam Edwards quizzed the woman about who she was “trying to impress” before subjecting her to a series of assaults which culminated in him putting his hands around his partner’s throat.
After letting go of her windpipe, the defendant told her: “That's your warning”
In a statement read to Swansea Crown Court the victim said she thought she was going to die at the hands of her partner, adding: “I will never fully recover from the defendant’s abuse but I will heal in time.”
Regan Walters, prosecuting, told the court that the assaults began on the evening of October 6 last year when Edwards and his partner were at the unit in Tycroes where the defendant's business is based.
He said Edwards’ partner started browsing online for clothes using her phone and the defendant became angry at what she was doing, quizzing her about who she was “trying to impress” The prosecutor said Edwards “looked like he was ready to fight her’.
The woman tried to leave the unit but the defendant prevented her, then took her to the ground and punched her repeatedly.
The court heard that the pair left the unit in the defendant's vehicle and drove towards his Ammanford home.
During the journey the victim told Edwards he was “a woman-beater’, at which he “flew into a rage” and stopped the car at the roadside. The defendant hit his partner in the head and body then got out of the vehicle and kicked her.
