VHEMBE Mayor Freda Nkondo recently tabled the district’s budget speech and highlighted key achievements for the financial year ending June 30.
She also presented the municipality’s plans for the future, guided by the 2025/26 Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and budget in line with the objectives outlined in Section 152 of the Constitution.
Nkondo, who was joined by the MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Jerry Maseko, senior Vhavenda traditional leaders including Thovhele Nthumeni Masia who represented the Vhavenda kingship, delivered her address at the Tabernacle Christian Centre in Mavambe village’s ward 20, under the Collins Chabane Local Municipality on Friday.
“All these focus areas, crucial as they are, will be dealt with in the executive summary of the overall budget,” said Nkondo, adding that the budget for the 2025/26 financial year stands at R3.353b.
She outlined the projected revenue budgets for the next three years as follows: R3.115b for 2025/26, R3.353b for 2026/27, and R3.481b for 2027/28.
Revenue is mainly derived from grants and subsidies received from both provincial and national governments, as gazetted in the Division of Revenue Act (DoRA), along with internally generated revenue.
Nkondo said delivering this important State of the District Address (Soda) was meant to outline the municipality’s achievements, challenges and plans, and that the address is a vital mechanism for transparency and accountability in local government, particularly when it comes to service delivery and community engagement.
