Frustrated residents take matters into own hands to repair crumbling roads
Capricorn Review
|May 07, 2025
AFTER years of unfulfilled promises from the Thulamela Local Municipality, residents of Mavhode and Madatshitshi villages near Gogogo in the Mutale area have taken matters into their own hands to repair their crumbling roads and build much-needed infrastructure.
Chairperson of the local road project, Shumani Muthala, said the initiative began in August 2019 when the community grew tired of waiting for government assistance. “Our children from Mavhode Primary and Vele Secondary were missing school during the rainy season because the rivers flood and there’s no bridge to cross. We realised that if we didn’t act, nothing would change.”
