Rampant Illegal Mining Drains Natural Wealth Massive Machinery Used for Excavation; Crores in Revenue Lost to the Government

Mallampalli and its surrounding villages in Mulugu district are becoming hotspots for large-scale illegal red soil mining. Renowned for their rich red soil deposits, these regions are now witnessing unchecked exploitation by private individuals who are capitalizing on the soil's high demand. Operating without permissions, they are excavating soil using heavy machinery and transporting it via hundreds of tipper trucks each day — all while dodging regulatory oversight.

Locals allege that the illegal excavation has been transforming natural wealth into private profit, with the government losing crores in potential revenue. Entire hillocks and soil mounds on private lands, government land, and along both sides of the SRSP canal are being targeted by these operators. Excavation is carried out brazenly, in a manner that resembles formal mining operations, but without the necessary licenses or environmental clearances.
