Hardened criminal killed in police encounter in Gonda

A hardened criminal carrying a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on his arrest and wanted in more than four dozen cases was killed in a joint operation by Khodare police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) team in the Umari Begamganj area of Gonda district here in Uttar Pradesh, a senior police officer said here on Tuesday.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Vineet Jaiswal said that on the night of April 24 at about 02:30 am, a theft was being committed by unidentified thieves in the house of Devideen, a resident of Pure Tilak Dhannipurwa Dixir village under Umri Begmganj police station.
"During the theft, Devideen's brother Shivdeen (22) woke up and attempted to catch the miscreants," he said.
