Facebook or Slut book?: The growing terror of digital pornography and the falling sensitivity of society
Capital Information
|May 28, 2025
When social media came into our lives, it was expected that it would become a powerful medium to connect ideas, strengthen dialogue and spread public awareness.
But today, in 2025, the way the terror of obscenity and vulgarity is spreading, especially on a platform like Facebook, is not only worrying but also exposes the mental decadence of our society wrapped in the cloak of civilization.
Viral culture of pornographic videos: Entertainment or mental disorder?
Today, if a pornographic video violating the privacy of a woman or a person is uploaded on Facebook by mistake, then before it is reported and removed, millions of people download it, share it and ask for it from each other. This process happens in such a terrifying and organized manner that it seems as if we are living in a digital wolf pack and not a civilized society.
The most disturbing thing is that all this is done mostly by educated, cultured looking people, who put the tricolour, Om or a shloka from Geeta on their profiles.
So then the question arises — is this our real mentality?
Are we representatives of a double-faced society that talks about morality on stage and consumes obscenity in private?
Silence of society: another crime
Far from reporting, protesting and getting these videos removed, people quietly watch them, save them and share them in private messages. An act which should be condemnable in society becomes a part of entertainment and mobile messages. In such a situation, society not only supports the criminal but itself becomes a partner in the crime.
