THE recent comments by Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos have struck a nerve deep within the national psyche, creating an unwelcome and damaging storm on the eve of critical tournaments.

While his frustration with player discipline is understandable, the language he used - specifically the jarring, racially charged analogy about a player’s skin colour and the belittling description of a woman agent as a “nice little woman” - was profoundly unfortunate. In a nation still healing from the scars of apartheid and grappling with a crisis of gender-based violence, such words are not merely insensitive; they are inflammatory and harmful.
