Cyril will never win public's backing

WHEN the Phala Phala scandal first broke, President Cyril Ramaphosa flatly refused to step aside or take special leave to enable the competent institutions to properly investigate complaints against him.

There was a lack of justification for such refusal especially when his critics presented a compelling case that his continued stay threatened to undermine those investigations.

Very few, if any institution, can impartially investigate a sitting president and reach a guilty verdict, at least not here at home.

Indeed what followed then was a pattern of investigations that appeared to be cleansing the president's image in the face of very serious allegations.
