Kgalebane Mohlakoana opened the scoring for South Africa, but her strike was cancelled out by DRC's Ruth Monique before the halftime break.

The second leg promises to be a decisive encounter, with the winner on aggregate set to advance to the WAFCON finals in Morocco next year. The return fixture is scheduled for Tuesday evening at the FNB Stadium.

South Africa will head into the match with a slim edge, as Mohlakoana's crucial away goal gives them a slight advantage ahead of the second leg which will also see them welcome back some of the key members of the team, including forward Thembi Kgatlana.
