'Smart recruitment is keeping our treatment room quiet after horrific year'

CAMBRIDGE United head coach Neil Harris says the club are “trying to work as smart as possible” as they seek to maintain their positive injury record so far this season.

The U's have had high player availability for their League Two campaign to date, in stark contrast to their troubles last term.

In part due to the significant number of injuries that were obtained throughout last season, the U's ended up with a squad of 35 players by the end of the campaign, with 21 of those going on to leave the club following their relegation from League One.

Of United's 11 summer additions, only Louis Appere has had a spell on the sidelines so far, and discussing his side’s vastly-improved injury record at last week’s press conference, Harris said: “That goes down to recruitment.

“That's why with no disrespect to the players that have left us over the summer, some really good players left us and we had some really good loans as well, a couple of young players that I really enjoyed working with, but ultimately we did have a horrific injury record last year.
