Gibson nets as South edge past Wisbech side

IN SNOWY condition, Cambridge South Hockey Club's women's first team secured a narrow win over Wisbech Town seconds in East Hockey Women's League Division 3NW.

The cold weather clearly affected both teams, with the game played at a slower pace than each would normally produce.

South found their groove for just one brief spell in the match, but they made the most of this - Harriet Burscough instigating a flowing, onetouch move with an excellent reverse stick interception of a Wisbech pass on the left touchline, the ball being worked from Burscough around the back and then up the right flank, Indi Hornsby-Cox firing the ball into the circle for Naomi Gibson to deflect home.

The advantage this gave South was narrow, resulting in a tense final five minutes as Wisbech through bodies forward looking for a leveller, but it proved enough for all the points to move South four clear at the top of the table.
