AFP ramps up intel amid Mideast tensions-Brawner
Business Mirror
|March 16, 2026
THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has received firm assurances from Washington that American military presence in the Indo-Pacific region will remain strong, despite the United States' intensified focus on conflicts in the Middle East.
AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. said he has been in "close contact" with his US counterpart, who pledged continuity of support.
"They assured us that the support of the US to the Philippines will continue on," Brawner noted, adding that American forces in the Philippines and Indo-Pacific "have not been reduced."
In response to global tensions, the AFP has expanded its intelligence collection to monitor possible spillover threats, including risks from Iran-backed groups.
