AN extra £15 million will be ploughed into fixing roads across the county - including Burton and Uttoxeter - over the next two years as part of a new drive to tackle a 'pothole backlog'.

- By HAYLEY PARKER

Staffordshire County Council says it will be targeting 'lower-level potholes that don’t cause a serious safety issue' but still need repairing.

Dangerous potholes will still be expected to be fixed within 24 hours or seven days, depending on what category they are.

The news comes after the council’s crater-riddled roads were given an amber rating in a new traffic light grading system.

Peter Mason, right, cabinet member for strategic highways, said: "Residents have repeatedly highlighted potholes as a priority, and we know that they remain one of the biggest frustrations for motorists.
