No inquiry into rental rule break by Reeves
Burton Mail
|October 31, 2025
AN investigation into Chancellor Rachel Reeves' admission that she fell foul of local housing rules when renting out her family home is "not necessary", Sir Keir Starmer has said.
-
It comes as it emerged last night the PM had received “new information” regarding rental arrangements for the Chancellor's family home, Downing Street has said.
No 10 believes the exchange will exonerate Rachel Reeves, it is understood, after she admitted to mistakenly breaching local council housing rules by failing to obtain a rental licence.
The Prime Minister had already given his backing to Ms Reeves after consulting his ethics adviser Sir Laurie Magnus, prior to the new information coming to light.
The Chancellor had admitted to Sir Keir she did not obtain the required “selective” rental licence for her south London home when she moved into No 11 Downing Street after Labour won the election.
