FACILITY TO PROVIDE QUICKER RESPONSE TO TRAFFIC ISSUES

- By EDDIE BISKNELL Local democracy reporter

FIFTY new jobs are to be created under plans to provide a quicker response to the gritting of two busy roads.

A National Highways compound has been approved as part of plans to deliver quicker responses to issues on the A38 and A50.

The facility, approved by South Derbyshire District Council last week, will be built off the Etwall Road, adjacent the Willington service station and the A38/A50 Toyota Roundabout.

Documents provided by National Highways detail that its new operational compound is intended to provide easy access for quick responses to issues on the A38 and A50 nearby, including with “winter road treatments” such as gritting.

The site will include offices, a garage, a large salt container spanning 30 metres wide and 15 metres tall, vehicle wash and fuel storage - operating 24/7.
