Nestle workers in Tutbury and Buxton fear job losses

WORKERS employed at plants owned by Nestlé in Tutbury and Buxton are waiting anxiously to see if the company's plans to cut around 16,000 jobs globally over the next two years will affect them.

Around 1,000 people are employed at the Tutbury factory, which is actually nearer to Hatton, where 35,000 tonnes of coffee are produced each year.

And about 210 people work at Waterswallows, home of Buxton Water, which the company acquired in 1992.

Nestlé is hoping to turn to automation to reduce costs and said it needed to "change faster" and secure its future "as a leader in our industry". The reductions would include around 12,000 "white-collar professionals"

This was expected to save the company around one billion Swiss francs (£940 million) each year by the end of 2027.
