Mendez-Laing hails 'special time' as he leaves Rams

NATHANIEL Mendez-Laing says it was a “special time” in his career with Derby County.
The 33-year-old winger ended a three-year spell with the Rams this week when he joined League Two MK Dons, where he was reunited with former Derby head coach Paul Warne.
Mendez-Laing made 145 appearances and scored 21 goals for the Rams, helping them return to the second tier in 2023-24 when Warne steered the club to promotion from League One.
His last goal for the Rams came last month in the 3-1 away win against West Bromwich Albion, a key result as John Eustace’s side avoided relegation. It is understood that there is no transfer fee involved in his move to Stadium MK.
"I will always have massive respect for Derby County," said Mendez-Laing.
"I have so much respect for the fans and everybody at the club, it was a special time in my career and I've played some of my best football there.
"I'll forever be grateful for what the club has done for me.”
Warne, who was sacked by the Rams in February and replaced by Eustace, became MK Dons' boss last month and Mendez-Laing is his first signing for the club.
“We're absolutely delighted to welcome Nathaniel,” Warne told the club's media.
“Having previously coached him, I've seen his skill set and capabilities first-hand and it's exactly what I wanted to introduce into this squad.
