GOVERNMENT CALLS ON MAYORS TO TAKE LEADING ROLE AROUND IMPLEMENTING THREE-YEAR HOMELESSNESS STRATEGY
THE Mayor of the East Midlands has backed a new £3.5 billion homelessness strategy to be carried out over the next three years.
The government's National Plan to End Homelessness aims to halve long-term rough sleeping, end the unlawful use of bed and breakfast accommodation for families, and prevent more households from becoming homeless.
Ministers have also called on regional mayors to take a leading role, supported by simplified funding to improve collaboration between councils and support services.
East Midlands Mayor Claire Ward, below, said: “Homelessness is a challenge that every community faces, and this strategy sets out our mission to prevent homelessness and eradicate rough sleeping.
