Bowyer: How last week told me we're heading the right way

BURTON Albion set themselves a template in terms of togetherness and fight in last week's battling goalless draw away to Huddersfield Town, says manager Gary Bowyer.

- By COLSTON CRAWFORD

And that is now something he wants to see them develop further against an unpredictable Plymouth Argyle side at the Pirelli Stadium tomorrow (3pm).

The Brewers might have got themselves ahead from a couple of good chances in the first half against the Terriers - and Bowyer felt they might also have had a penalty before defending stoutly towards the end of the game and claiming the first points Huddersfield had dropped at home this season.

With late window loan signing Brad Collins making a debut which had been delayed by illness, Bowyer also felt he had something close to his full first-choice side together for the first time, notwithstanding those who are out injured.

Brad, George Evans in the middle of the park and Jake Beesley at the top end of the pitch.

"I was mightily frustrated that we didn’t get a penalty (for handball) in the first half. Having watched it back again, (midfielder) Ryan Ledson makes a great save right in front of the ref and he didn’t give it.

"Then we showed a resilience and a real grit and, as I say, a coming together of the group and we've got to reproduce that now.

"They showed miles and miles of heart and fight and we've got to do the same again now on Saturday."

Nor was the situation lost on the players.
