Rovers will relish ‘step up’ in pre-season ‘challenge’, says Carr

Rovers will relish the opportunity to close out their preseason preparations with two friendlies against Championship opposition, assistant head coach Rhys Carr has insisted, as the start of the League Two campaign draws closer.
The Gas have played four friendly matches this summer, two of which against National League South opposition in Chippenham Town and Bath City as well as National League Yeovil Town and League One Stockport County. Wins have come against the non-League opponents by a one goal margin, while Rovers were beaten 3-2 by Stockport in an entertaining match out in Spain.
This week will see the quality of their opponents step up significantly when they host Championship playoff semifinalists Coventry City tomorrow night before making the relatively short trip to Oxford United, another second-tier side, on Saturday afternoon.
Competitive action will return the following week when Rovers start their League Two season at home against Harrogate Town on August 2.
