Rising rents City tenants face a 'horrible squeeze'

PEOPLE living in Bristol pay the highest percentage of their salary in rent of anywhere in England outside of London.
According to new figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the average level of rent in the city is equal to 44.6% of the median salary. Neighbouring Bath and North East Somerset is scarcely any more affordable, paying the second highest proportion outside the capital, at 42.7%.
The figures relate to 2023/24 and detail how rents continue to outpace salary growth in the West Country - with rent taking up 39.2% of salaries in 2022/2023 in Bristol.
