Rejected HMO plan for former cinema refused

THE fight to save the building housing the former Redfield Cinema in East Bristol lives on after an appeal from developers was rejected.
In September 2024, developers Landrose submitted controversial plans to convert the site of the derelict art deco cinema on Church Road into 13 houses of multiple occupancy (HMOs), with a total of 42 bedrooms, alongside “associated gym and communal workspace facilities”.
As Bristol City Council did not respond to the submission in time, Landrose appealed to the central government's planning inspectorate for a decision.
On August 15, the Planning Inspectorate formally rejected the appeal, mainly on the grounds that not enough parking provision had been included in the developers’ plans.
