Flag-waving stunt was embarrassing for Labour MPs
-
COULDN'T believe the scene at the Labour party conference - hundreds of Labour MPs and members holding little Union and St George's flags like expectant children. Or were they just embarrassed?
I knew Keir Starmer would do anything to get votes but for sheer hypocrisy and cynicism this surpassed even the clown Ed Davey's flag-waving stunt at the Lib Dem's conference. Keir Starmer says he is reclaiming the flag from the far right but if he really believed in patriotism he wouldn’t need to reclaim it as it would already be part of his background and reputation. When he was happily supporting Jeremy Corbyn he was more likely to be flying the red flag - the symbol of socialism.
Added to this, both Keir Starmer and Ed Davey's speeches were dominated by references to Reform and Nigel Farage - Davey mentioned Farage over 20 times.
This to me indicated the fact that both men have very little to offer this country; there is a vacuum in their own policies and they are allowing Farage and Reform to dictate the agenda. Farage is a disrupter who helped to split the Tory party and Starmer and Davey are falling into the same trap. In my view there is no way Nigel Farage will become our new Prime Minister at the next election when his policies are more closely scrutinised - we are talking about a party with five MPs for goodness sake!
Kemi Badenoch is doing the right thing in keeping a low profile and gradually rebuilding The Tories. Labour are in real trouble as the unions don’t really fancy either of the candidates for deputy leader. Andy Burnham has mistimed his challenge so they are stuck with their hapless leader. Angela Rayner, anyone?
