Hockey Battling Robbies beaten by Wimbledon and Surbiton
Bristol Post
|October 29, 2025
CLIFTON Robinsons kicked off their weekend double header with a hard-fought battle away against Wimbledon, narrowly falling 2-1 in an intense and competitive match.
The opening quarter saw both teams testing each other but unable to break the deadlock. Wimbledon struck twice in quick succession during the second quarter, to take a 2-0 lead into halftime despite strong defensive efforts from Clifton.
Showing great resilience, Clifton Robinsons came out firing in the second half and began to take control. Their hard work was rewarded when Livy Lane found the net, finishing a well-worked attacking move.
The visitors continued to push for an equaliser, piling on late pressure, but were unable to convert their chances in the final moments with the home side taking the points.
Captain Ash Mainwaring was named player of the match for an outstanding defensive performance and strong leadership at the back. The game also marked the Premier Division debut of Steph Botha, who impressed with an energetic and composed display throughout.
