As Haydon Roberts made his way into the press conference room, just a matter of minutes after Bristol City's win over West Brom, it was impossible not to notice the beaming smile brandished across the defender's face as he quickly switched off his phone, which was undoubtedly awash with messages from family and friends, and took his seat behind the desk.

At times, the left-back has divided the opinion of City supporters. While he has shown just how good he can be with his performances in the final weeks of last season and in flashes this campign, some have questioned just how he fits into Liam Manning's system. After his late winner on Tuesday evening however, none of that mattered one bit as he had given more than 24,000 inside Ashton Gate a moment they, and he, will never forget.

Having been introduced in place of Ross McCrorie with just more than 15 minutes left to play, and with the scores level at 1-1, the former Brighton man carved out his own piece of Robins' history. After being picked out by a smart first-time pass from Rob Dickie, the defender opened his body and slotted a low finish under former Bristol Rovers loanee Josh Griffiths in the 96th minute to send his manager, his team-mates and the City supporters into celebration. It may not have been the most eye-catching of goals but its importance was not lost on Roberts.
