Education School plans approved as more homes built

A NEW primary school will be built and another will undergo a major expansion to cope with families moving into hundreds of new and proposed homes in South Gloucestershire after council leaders approved the plans.

But the Lib Dem/Labour partnership in charge of the authority clashed with opposition Conservatives as both sides accused each other of failures.

The new £13million school will serve giant new housing developments at Ladden Garden Village in Yate, while a £12.6million extension to the existing primary school in the village of Charfield, where there are plans for 775 new homes over the next 12 years, will get 210 extra places.

The ruling coalition said it was making good on promises that the previous Tory administration failed to deliver, while the Conservatives said the Lib Dems and Labour were not doing enough to ensure other vital infrastructure was in place for the new estates.

The politicians clashed at South Gloucestershire Council cabinet on Monday.
