BRISTOL City Council has a "duty" to chase council tax debt, leader Tony Dyer says.

Mr Dyer's comments came in the wake of former Bristol resident Nicholas Davies accusing the council of "harassment" after it chased him for a decade-old debt for a property he said he wasn't even living at.
At one point, he said bailiffs visited him for unpaid rent from the year 2014, at a council-owned property he said he had moved out of in 2012. Bristol City Council is owed nearly £52m in unpaid council tax - amid a staggering £229m total unpaid debt - as it chases a lengthy backlog of cases.
Although Cllr Dyer described it as the council's duty to chase unpaid bills, he said he wished there was a fairer way for local bodies to raise money.
