Baseball Below-par Buccaneers still manage to sweep Whirlwinds

BRISTOL Buccaneers prepared for the BBF/SWWBL A final with a sweep in their final regular-season game.
-
Although the Buccaneers were not on their best form, they beat Yeovil Whirlwinds 12-8 and 12-11 at Somerdale Pavilion on Sunday.
In the first game, third baseman Luca McCurdy hit a double as the Buccaneers took advantage of some good plate discipline to get on base and then steal.
Will Marshall struck out three Whirlwinds from the mound as the Buccaneers completed the first-game win.
McCurdy was back in action with the bat in the second game, hitting his fourth home run of the season.
Infielder Jordan Nichols found form with an early double before coming up to bat with the scores tied at the bottom of the fourth inning.
Rod McCurdy had singled and then stole second and third to be within 90 feet of the win. Nichols then struck with a hard-hit ground ball through the infield to drive in McCurdy for the walk off win.
The Buccaneers will now face Exeter Spitfires in the regional final on Sunday week at Somerdale Pavilion.
"It was good to end the season with two wins, but we all know we were below par against Yeovil," said Rod McCurdy, the Buccaneers' manager. "We now have a week off to prepare for the final against an impressive Exeter team, but I know we will be totally focused on winning."
The Bats brought their season to a close, splitting their double header against BBF/SWWBL AA champions Cardiff Merlins on Saturday in the Welsh capital.
