Ambulance staff 'emergency' over handover delays

SOUTH Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust staff are facing an “emergency” due to delays in hospital transfers, an MP has warned.

Bath Liberal Democrat MP Wera Hobhouse made the claim following a visit to Bath Ambulance Station.
The visit was part of Mrs Hobhouse’s role as amember of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Emergency Care.
Speaking with Dr John Martin, SWASFT's chief executive, Paul Birkett-Wendes, head of operations for Bath, Swindon and Wiltshire, and operations manager Oliver Dalton, Mrs Hobhouse was told that “hospital handover delays” are among the service's biggest challenges.
