'A guiding presence' Club in shock after sudden death of its chairman

Alistair Kilfoil (middle) died suddenly last week aged 63

Alistair Kilfoil, who had been chairman of Hambrook Sports Club for six years and a member of the club for over three decades, died last week aged 63.

Club president John Gillingham remembered Alistair as someone who truly loved sport and who was a vital part of the fabric of the club.

“He was always willing to help whenever and wherever he was needed,” Mr Gillingham said. “He did everything from getting behind the bar to supporting the functions of the club and fundraising.”

Mr Gillingham said the club's AGM on Monday had been a sombre affair, dominated as it was by the news of the chairman’s passing. He said he did not know what had caused Alistair’s death.
