|May 29, 2025
THE Oyama School of Karate held its first grading of the year at the Ngoako Ramahlodi Indoor Sports Complex in Seshego on May 17.
The session as overseen by shihan Happy Prince Gumede, a seventh dan black belt from KwaZulu-Natal and branch chief of the dojo. A pre-grading session was held on May 16 to prepare the 41 karatekas who would be evaluated.
Among the participants were Kenia Makgoka and Bareng Matlabo, both 13 years old, who were assessed for their first kyu. This is a significant step before they qualify for black belt testing, which requires at least 12 months of further training.
