Increase in cases of hospital related superbug
Blackpool Gazette
|December 29, 2025
More cases of a hospital-related superbug were reported at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals Trust last year, recent figures show, as the number of cases also increased across England.
New results from a survey of more than 1,000 staff across the UK found "worrying variations in awareness" of the infection within the NHS.
It showed almost two in three respondents were unaware cases nationwide have risen in recent years. Clostridioides difficile (C. difficile) is a common hospital-associated bacterial infection that causes severe diarrhoea and can be life threatening, especially in older people.
