Dual-perspective thriller stirs audience to choose own 'truth'

Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke's upcoming series The Girlfriend is a psychological thriller "where the audience choose the truth".

"These two women believe their truths are the only truths," reflects Wright. The 59-year-old actress, best known for playing Jenny in Forrest Gump, stars alongside House Of The Dragon's Olivia Cooke in The Girlfriend, a six-part psychological thriller adapted from Michelle Frances's novel.

The series follows Laura, played by Wright, a woman who seems to have it all: a successful career, a devoted husband, portrayed by Waleed Zuaiter, and her beloved son, Daniel, played by Laurie Davidson.

But her perfect world unravels when Daniel introduces Cherry, portrayed by Cooke, a girlfriend who changes everything.

After a fraught first meeting, Laura becomes convinced Cherry is hiding something. But is Cherry a calculating social climber, or is Laura simply paranoid? The truth depends on who you believe.

While dual perspectives and clashing narratives aren’t new to television, The Girlfriend offers its own unsettling twist.
