Walking the highs and lows exploring the Peak District

- Walk devised by Rob Evans, walks leader Norwest Fell Walking Club. Described by Bob Clare, Chair of Norwest Fell Walking Club

Buxton

“I enjoy linear walks - they seem to have more purpose.” This an observation from club Norwest Fell Walking Club member Alison on our foray into Derbyshire last month.

And while there may be little difference between circular and linear walks in terms of distance, time, grade I'm sure all of you who walk regularly knows that psychological difference between them.

The logistics of doing linear walks require more consideration. There are three choices. First-the two-car solution. Meet at a chosen venue and then drive to the start of the route and walk back five, ten or 100 miles to the meeting point which necessitates the complication of retrieving the car at the start. Second-using public transport to reach the starting point either at the beginning of the walk or the end. Third-join a coach hiring walking club with a varied programme giving you an opportunity to create a linear route or join a group undertaking one.
