The heat will be on for Tuchel to lead Lions to World Cup success
Birmingham Mail
|June 03, 2025
ENGLAND resume their World Cup qualifying campaign away to Andorra on Saturday (5pm ITV).
-
The match is actually being played at the RCDE Stadium in Barcelona, which is the home of La Liga side Espanyol, after UEFA changed the venue for the fixture.
The return game will be at Villa Park on Saturday, September 6.
Will England win the World Cup? Long way to go and there is plenty of English talent.
Thomas Tuchel is a proven head coach with massive clubs. But the Premier League is a physical, gruelling season and FIFA keep packing the football programme with events such as the upcoming Club World Cup, worth many millions to Manchester City and Chelsea.
And when England get to the host countries - Mexico, USA and Canada - there could be searing temperatures of over 30C.
The 2026 World Cup final will be on July 19 at the Metlife Stadium in New Jersey, USA.
I was with the Irish in Orlando in 1994 and the heat was high! Ask Steve Staunton.
England will be there, of course. Saturday is just another step to finishing top of Group K.
I am sure you will agree that it is worth reminding ourselves where we are right now.
England have again been drawn in a relatively easy group - the Group K consists of five teams: Albania, Andorra, England, Latvia and Serbia.
England have already won their two opening matches under Tuchel without conceding a goal. Both in March at Wembley 2-0 against Albania and 3-0 against Latvia.
The current FIFA world rankings have England fourth behind Argentina, Spain and France. And ahead of Brazil, Holland, Portugal, Belgium, Italy and Germany... all those rankings in that order.
