- ANNABAL BAGDI News Reporter

Teen driver made safety promise before tragedy

A TEENAGE Midland motorist who killed three friends when he crashed on the way home from school had previously promised to be ‘careful’ behind the wheel.

Edward Spencer, 19, lost control of his Ford Fiesta on the B4035 Camp-den Road while on his way home from school - just five weeks after he passed his test.

His passengers Harry Purcell, 17, Matilda Seccombe, 16, and Frank Wormald, 16, died in the collision, which happened between Chipping Campden and Shipston-on-Stour, Warwickshire, in April 2023.

Spencer, of Armscote Road, Newbold on Stour, admitted three counts of causing death by careless driving and three counts of causing serious injury by careless driving when he appeared at Warwick Crown Court.

Spencer was granted bail and will be sentenced on April 28.
