Only expect the unexpected in Championship, as Blues proved!

RESULTS in the Championship are often unpredictable. Take the weekend for instance... I would have predicted Birmingham City to win at Leicester City; Coventry City to do likewise at Oxford United; West Bromwich Albion to draw or lose at Stoke; and Ipswich to beat Derby.

Only expect the unexpected in Championship, as Blues proved!

If I had placed a bet I would have lost on all four games!

I was at the King Power and sat next to a good friend, four-time world snooker champion Mark Selby who, like me, is a Foxes supporter. He asked me before kickoff: "Who do you think will win?"

I replied: "Birmingham, who have a strong, expensive squad while Leicester keep selling their best players. BUT you never know in this Championship. I think the absence of Jay Stansfield could be a factor for Birmingham... Results can amaze you!"

And so it proved with a 2-0 win for the home side. The Blues did not play well having also disappointed in midweek losing to League One Port Vale in the Carabao Cup.

Next up after the international break, the Blues go to Stoke who having won all three opening matches before Saturday, I thought would have the edge on the Baggies.

I was wrong. 1-0 to West Bromwich.

On Saturday week the Baggies, now second in the table, are at home to Derby, who are still without a league win but did knock West Brom out of the Carabao Cup at The Hawthorns last month.

The Rams should have won at Ipswich on Saturday but were held 2-2 with the Tractor boys equalising in the 16th minute of added time. Can you believe that? 106 minutes!

Crackers. Oxford picked up their first point by holding free-scoring Coventry 2-2. Now the Sky Blues will return home to play Norwich City after the break.
