Leave them kids alone?

BIRMINGHAM parents were divided on the subject of children walking to and from school alone.

While some felt it was not safe due to violent crime and stranger dangers, others said they had no choice due to work commitments.

The debate among Birmingham Mail readers was sparked by guidance issued by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).

Under UK law, there was no specific age for children to travel alone, with the NSPCC instead saying it was up to parents to use their best judgement, or the school’s rules and policies.

The children’s charity’s guidance said: "However, you should never leave a child alone who isn’t ready or is unable to care for themselves.
