'Inadequate' school's new head predicts 'bright future'

THE new headteacher at a school considered to be among the worst in the West Midlands believes it is now making “significant” progress.

Ofsted delivered a damning verdict after visiting Shire Oak Academy in Walsall earlier this year.

Inspectors witnessed classes being disrupted by unruly students at the secondary school, which is run by the Mercian Trust. They said standards “have been far too low for too long”.

It was given the worst-possible rating of ‘inadequate’ in three out of four main areas focused on by the education watchdog earlier this year.
