LIFE-CHANGING INJURIES LEFT 13-YEAR-OLD FEELING 'LIKE AN ALIEN'
A GIRL of just 13 said she was left feeling "like an alien" after she was knocked down by a callous hit-and-run driver who ruined her life.
The teenager suffered life-changing injuries when she was hit by a speeding car driven by cowardly Mervyn Boreland as she crossed Holly Lane in Erdington two years ago.
She smashed into the windscreen after being thrown into the air before ending up on the ground as Boreland, who was doing double the 30mph limit, sped away and later dumped the car.
Before he was jailed for just three years, the schoolgirl told Birmingham Crown Court cruel bullies made car noises and she felt judged by strangers she passed in the street.
She said: "The reality is I feel like an alien compared to everyone else. I hate the glances I get from random strangers on the street.
"I'm in constant fear whenever someone is looking at me, probably judging me. I don't want to feel like this anymore. I shouldn't have gone through what I did as a 13-year-old girl."
Her mother said their family’s lives were ‘turned upside down’ on the day of the collision.
She described being ‘plagued with flashbacks’ of her holding her daughter’s hand at the side of the road and the traumatic memories of paramedics crying.
